Vienna Pride 2026 is held under the motto “VISIBLE since 1996” and thus places the 30th anniversary of the Rainbow Parade at its center.
The motto deliberately refers to “VISIBLE,” which was already the motto of the first Rainbow Parade in 1996, a strong sign that visibility was politically necessary then as it is today.
“30 years of the Rainbow Parade show how much our community has achieved through visibility, protest and political pressure, but they also show how much is still unresolved. It cannot be that queer people in Austria in 2026 still have to wait for a ban on conversion therapies or that intersex children are still not sufficiently protected from unnecessary medical interventions. Equality must not remain lip service, we demand consistent legal measures, effective protection against discrimination and hate crime,” explains Ann-Sophie Otte.
Groups, organizations and initiatives can still register to participate in the Rainbow Parade until May 11, 2026 at 12:00 noon. Registration takes place online via Vienna Pride.
“With the Pride Village and the After Pride Celebration at Rathausplatz, the Pride Run Vienna and the community festival on the Prater Hauptallee, the Vienna Pride Conference at City Hall and the many important side events at Badeschiff, at Strandbar Herrmann or the Vienna City Beach Club among many others, we create spaces for exchange, political discussion and celebrating together more safely. Especially in our anniversary year, we want to show how diverse, lively and strong our community is and invite people to reduce misunderstandings and uncertainties and to enter into dialogue for a fairer and better society for all people,” says Katharina Kacerovsky-Strobl.
Karl Kreipel, head of the Rainbow Parade, also looks at the anniversary with special significance: “30 years of the Rainbow Parade mean 30 years of protest, visibility and solidarity. What began in 1996 with great courage is today one of the most important demonstrations for human rights in Austria. We are not only celebrating this anniversary, we carry it forward with pride and responsibility.”
In 2026, rainbow flags on Vienna’s trams will once again set a strong sign for visibility. A symbolic sponsorship can still be taken over for the last available line. All information can be found at www.viennapride.at.
